About Longton Community Action Grants

We’re proud to announce that ten grants of £1,000 have been awarded to outstanding local organisations and community groups, nominated by members of the community, and selected by members of the Longton Town Forum.

These grants recognise the incredible work being done across the community and aim to support initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Urban Wilderness CIC has delivered this programme to support charities, non-profits, and community organisations across the Longton area.

The funding reaches genuine, locally rooted groups working to strengthen and enrich the community.

This initiative highlights a shared commitment to empowering grassroots organisations and building a stronger, more connected Longton.

Successful Organisations

These groups are making a real difference across Longton—bringing people together, improving wellbeing, and creating opportunities for all. Each of these organisations represents the very best of Longtonpassionate people creating positive change every day. We’re proud to support their work and excited to see the impact these grants will have across the community.

Blurton Community Garden

This grant will fund additional planting beds and new seating areas, enabling the garden to grow more crops for community stalls, expand seed-sharing programs, and support skill-building workshops. The seating will provide a comfortable space for visitors to rest, enjoy activities like birdwatching and habitat building, and participate in longer garden sessions.

Longton and Proud CIC

Funding will be used to create a community mural and memorial garden at Longton Exchange, celebrating local people and stories. The space will include reflective areas, planting, and seating, giving residents somewhere meaningful to gather, remember, and take pride in their town.

Longton Community Partnership

The grant will allow the partnership and Bloomin’ Longton to improve volunteer facilities and provide better-equipped spaces for community projects. This means safer working areas, dedicated social and meeting spaces, and support for volunteers, helping them continue their vital work across Longton.

Longton Junior Park Run

This funding will be used to replenish and upgrade equipment for the 2km course, ensuring it is safe for children aged 4–14 and the increasing number of adults who participate, run, or volunteer. It helps maintain a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment every Sunday.

Longton Methodist Central Hall

The grant will refurbish the kitchen with a new electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, sinks, non-slip flooring, storage cupboards, and new windows. This will improve coffee mornings, youth programs, and events, while giving young people and volunteers opportunities to develop skills in a safe, welcoming environment.

Outreach at the URC

Funding will be used to purchase equipment and resources that allow the group to plan and deliver inclusive activities for all ages. This includes holiday clubs, weekly sessions, and wellbeing programs designed to reduce isolation and support families in the community.

Pig Walk (Longton Carnival & Pig Walk Parade)

The grant will support family-friendly workshops, the parade, artisan markets, street food stalls, and entertainment. This ensures the Carnival remains free, accessible, and a vibrant celebration that brings together residents, neighbours, and local businesses.

Pink Sisters and Misters

Funding will be used to purchase new laptops and update essential equipment, enabling the charity to run face-to-face meetings, moderated online forums, and wellbeing activities. This ensures continued support for people affected by cancer and their families.

St Paul’s Church

This grant will fund upgrades to refreshment facilities and equipment, making the church’s community space more welcoming and comfortable. It allows visitors to relax, connect, and take part in activities that strengthen social bonds and wellbeing.

U7 Collective

Funding will be used to deliver accessible arts workshops, provide creative resources, and support grassroots artists. This helps families and local residents engage in creative activities, enhance wellbeing, and access opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable.
