Mapping Our Space

Creative Outdoor Learning at Sutherland Primary School

Mapping Our Space was a 12-week creative outdoor learning project delivered by Urban Wilderness CIC in partnership with PiCL (Partners in Creative Learning) at Sutherland Primary School.

Working with Reception pupils, the project used artist-led activities — including observation, storytelling, mark-making and making with natural materials — to reintroduce creativity, curiosity and shared imagination after Covid-19 lockdowns. Sessions were intentionally flexible and child-led, allowing ideas to evolve week by week in response to the children’s interests and experiences.

Alongside supporting pupils’ creative confidence, the programme also focused on building teachers’ confidence in using outdoor spaces
