Sky Works Artist Commission

Urban Wilderness CIC are the Arts Organisation leading Longton’s Cultural Action Zone as part of a city wide initiative funded by the Arts Council and managed by the Stoke Creates cultural compact.

We moved to Longton in 2020. We have a socially engaged, place based arts practice. Our impact includes the establishment of a Cultural Quarter in the Longton Exchange Shopping Centre. In Nov 2023 we installed the Sky Works canopy to support the development of the Cultural Quarter by increasing footfall and attracting new independent businesses and creative entrepreneurs to the area.

Our Sky Works public artworks are created with the community for the community; bringing bright, bold colours to the streetscape while remaining sympathetic to local aesthetics, values and cultures.

We create the artworks with our group of Community Makers as a mindful activity that supports wellbeing while developing a supportive social network for adults who are not at work.

Urban Wilderness are seeking applications from Artists who want to be part of our mission to regenerate Longton through personal creativity, public artworks and events. The Artist will work with us to design and build a canopy installation that meets the physical parameters of the installation space, with particular attention to light weight, weather resistant materials.

We are looking for an Artist who has participatory art experience and enjoys working with learning and physically disabled adults. Elements of the installation will be crafted by our Community Makers.

Urban Wilderness provide a safe and welcoming space for Artists to develop their practice and expect Artists to meet our dedication and passion to bring high quality artwork and experiences to the people of Longton.
