Art Club: Where Creativity Meets Wellbeing
Art Club is more than just a place to create; it’s a thriving community where young people aged 8-17 come together to express themselves, support their mental health, and build lasting social connections. Founded as a post-pandemic initiative by Urban Wilderness co-directors, in collaboration with young people from Stoke-on-Trent and the Changes Health and Wellbeing Youth Council, Art Club has become a cornerstone for youth engagement in the area.
Since its inception in 2021, Art Club has grown steadily, with 60+ young members who have benefited from our weekly sessions. These sessions provide a safe and supportive environment where participants can explore a wide range of artistic techniques and creative processes using artist-quality materials and professional equipment. This not only enhances their skills but also offers a therapeutic outlet to navigate the challenges of growing up in a rapidly changing world.
One of the unique aspects of Art Club is its commitment to youth leadership. Our members actively contribute to the direction of the club by sitting on the Urban Wilderness Youth Advisory Board. This ensures that our projects are always relevant, meaningful, and tailored to the needs and interests of young people today. Their input shapes everything we do, from the themes we explore in our sessions to the broader community initiatives we undertake.
Our team of dedicated artist facilitators all share a deep belief in the power of art and creativity to support mental health and overall wellbeing. They bring a wealth of experience and passion to each session, fostering an environment where young people feel empowered to express themselves freely, try new things, and connect with others who share their love for creativity.
At Art Club, we believe that creativity is a vital tool for navigating life’s ups and downs. Through art, our members learn not only to create beautiful things but also to process emotions, build confidence, and forge connections that extend beyond the studio. As we continue to grow, we are excited to see how Art Club will evolve and how our young artists will shape the future of our community.
